Wrist/Injury ...OUCH!!!!

Hey everyone.

I thank you all for your support with my injury and if you are OK seeing stiches I have a link with pictures ....

Luckily my arm is feeling much better and stronger now (week and half will do that) .. still a little red (doctor said might have been allergic to the stitches) ...

Also saw Secret Window with Johnny Depp tonight which I HATED (0 Stars) .. I can't remember being this bored at a movie in a while .. It was under 90 minutes but felt more like 3 hours plus .... I think watching Godfather I and II would have seemed shorter ... In short DONT see it ... even my sweetie Ninanna who is a huge Stephen King fan was disappointed by it.

See Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind instead, because if you haven't yet shame on you ... Also for you NYCers out there see Bridge and Tunnel with Sarah Jones down at 45 Bleecker and see the really fun doubleheader at the UCB Theatre of Julie Spero's "Who's Your Daddy" and "Gutenberg! The Musical" my vote for best use of trucker hats ever (will be a lot, probably already is, in the garbage throughout hipsterville) Who's/Gutenberg is being shown at UCB Theatre on Wednesdays at 8 pm for the low low price of $5

So lets hope the cold has disappeared and Happy Easter and Passover y'all .. I have to go out and drink with you SGNYers sometime soon (this weekend seeing the parents in NJ) ....

Wow I haven't posted in a while .....

I want to congratulate Max Molina.. for graduating from the New School (Actors Studio) MFA program, he did an outrageously good job in his thesis performance as the straight-man in Big Al and I enjoyed his performance immensely.

The cut feels very strange having 5 stitches feels kind of like having barbed wire on your arm and awfully strange (although I am sure some SGers are intrigued) ...

Planning to see the Circus this weekend at MSG ($5 mezzazine seats from a daily news promotion) as well as Secret Window on Friday ....

And saw the tigers at Tiger Mountain in the Bronx Zoo on Sunday and it was awesome .. they actaully fed them so you could see them standing up 8 feet in the air .. most impressive.

Family Guy will be back

Family Guy looks like its going to be Back!!!!

According to E!/Yahoo News ... In early 2005, there willl be new episodes...

The link is on the bottom of the journal ... But I was on millions who bought the DVDs so I am very happy about and submitted the story to SG news too...

And if you have been reading my last posts you know how much I liked "Bridge and Tunnel" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"... I think they are both better every time I think about it.

Another really good show is at UCB on Wednesdays at 8 pm through April ... THe first part is Who's Your Daddy ... a really good one woman show by Wendy Spero ... and the second part is Gutenburg! The Musical whihc is the most creative use of trucker hats ever in a show I could compare with "Waiting for Guffman" ....

Eternal Sunshine ....

Still didn't see every second I wanted of games but ....its like $100/year for ESPN GamePlan over and above the insanely high digital cable and internet bill like $150/month .... I love the DVR and stuff but it makes you want to watch even more things.

And even better when I wasn't glued to basketball actually saw the great play "Bridge and Tunnel" a one-woman show by the amazing Sarah Jones and the great movie "Eternal Sunshine" .. see both as soon as you can!

But CBS is only one channel in NYC so you can only pick one game .....it sucks when you are stuck watching the game that doesn't interest you.

My Pattys day was pretty cool actually went to the Bowery Poetry Club and saw one my felllow level 1 improv people, Jedidah Clarke do some of his plays....

I also got tickets to see the stupendous one-woman show "Bridge and Tunnel" .. which I saw on Friday and was unbelievably good.

Just saw "Enternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" which was also mindnumbingly brilliant (****1/2) .. Maybe I should just make this a new post entriely...

So see "Bridge and Tunnel" down at 45 Bleeker before it goes to broadway and catch another amazing Jim Carrey performance in the Kaufman scribed "Eternal Sunshine"..

Oscar recap

So the Oscars are over .. and I did watch all of it ....

LOTR obviously did unbelieveably well going 11 for 11 ... Would have been nice for some acting noms too ....

I must say they need to get rid of singing all of the best songs considering many of them are credits filler ...

Probably the best of the best songs was "Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" from a Mighty Wind that was very much part of the film and one of the best parts of the movie ... The Triplets of Belleville song was great too, which is a movie I most definitely want to see ....

Nice to see Sean Penn and Tim Robbins finally win awards .. but it was most definitely Peter Jackson's night ... and a win that was most deserving ....

What do you all think ... Do you thinik like I do that you could have watched from 8:30 to 9:00 and 11:15 to Midnight and missed almost nothing in the middle ... And my god were the two Cold Mountain songs boring ....

Ed's first balloon twists ....

So I am now in Peabody, MA for the "Twist and Shout" Convention with 300 balloon twisters/clowns.

I actually did the first balloon twisting ever tonight.

It was actually quite fun ... and the latex balloons take much more then you would think they could.

Also had some outrageously good Brazilian food tonight ... all you can eat different types of meats that came out of skewers for you to try a piece of .... definitely not for Veggies ...

Then again, I did go to Buddha's Delight in Boston's Chinatown which is all veggie on Monday night and had "pork" (made with gluten) vermecellli dish ... It was surpisingly good.

MMMM ... Monument Kisses

One of my fav. things is the "monument kiss" it is something that me and Lanna (my fiancee) started around the 2nd month of our relationship ... It works really well in NYC (especially in midtown) but could work in any city or could even be personal monuments ...

So when I see say the Flatiron or the Empire State Building I say "Monument Kiss" for a very nice smooch ... .... If I see more then one there is "Double Monument Kiss" etc which is even longer and deeper ...

One of the most special things about my relationship with Lanna is this monument kiss and of course any excuse to kiss is good .... One of the best spots I know for the monument kiss is Mad Square Park at 24th between 5th and Broadway (road triangle) there you can see the Metlife, Flatiron and Empire State Buildings ... A Triple Monument Kiss ... YAY!!! ...

I also got a chance to see Blues legend Bobby "Blue" Bland last night ... I actually forgot about the Super Bowl for a second (actually am a football fan -- Philadelphia Eagles) ... and because I went to see Blues/Rock legend Bobby "Blue" Bland at BB Kings in Midtown of course it was a great game .... But being able to relieve the first date with my girlfriend (at Brooklyn Academy of Music with Cody ChestnuTT) was worth missing most of some silly game ... I got to see the best part of the game anyway ... ecq

Cold, cold, cold ...

I had a nice weekend in NoHo, MA but it was -20 windchill and even more fun my car's heater wasn't working in the very cold weather ... which means my hands were getting cold and I had to wear my huge coat in the last part of the trip in Conn. on the Merritt Turnpike ...

Anyway, today it looks like NYC is finally getting some snow ... Lord of The Rings got 11 nominations and is a 1/3 London Fav. for Best Picture and Best Director ... Master and Commander got a solid second place of 10 noms.... [URL=http://oscars.com]Oscar Home Page[/URL]

I was also very happy the Keisha Castle-Hughes got an actress nod (at the very youngage of 13) for the quite wonderful Whale Rider ... I would have liked to see more noms for Big Fish and my favorite movie of the year, American Splendor but you can't win everything.

I do def. still want to see Master and Commander especially, and The Triplets of Belleville ... I am also v. interested in the Station Agent (did much better in SAG nominations), Mystic River, and in some ways Cold Mountain ...

I am one of the few people/critics who did not like "Lost in Translation" and almost think I wasn't in the right mindset for what I found a VERRRRYYY SLLLOOOWOOWW movie ... I suppose Bill Murray was good in it, but for me it was a look at my watch how much is left C- ...

What one thing are you most looking forward to . . .

1. ...today?
Taking it real easy staying out of the cold and watching Providence @ Rutgers Men's Basketball ... I hope the game is a very good win for Rutgers ... losing by one to UConn was great but I would rather win ... It should be a tough game ....

2. ...over the next week?
My improv class ... tightening up my resume ... and hopefully hearing from some employers and of course me and my sweeties first anniversary on Sunday, Jan 18th(from first date) .. I love you Lanna

3. ...this year? Hopefully, Bush losing the election ... The Athens Summer Olympics ... Working for a change .. Writing ... Taking more improv classes .. Having a clearer path ... Spending more time with Lanna ... Having fun with Lanna's Family on July 4th in Maine ... Also Rites of Spring and another pagan event in two weekends for mid-winter..

4. ...over the next five years?
Fatherhood, Marriage, Starting to see over my debt, a good career path, a home, coaching some youth sports, gaining more maturity

5. ...for the rest of your life?

Again Fatherhood, Having children and grandchildren, Traveling all around the world, meeting unbelievable people, Conversations, Books, Movies ... This should be a great century even with a most unaudacious beginning

I will say this probably will NOT be the American Century (that was the 20th Century) no matter how hard we try to be the hegemon of the world. The British Century was probably the 19th Century (although the did control the US through the 18th Century) and the 20th Century saw a great loss of power for the British Empire ... The Sun definitely sets on the British Empire and the post-colonial world is still terribly uncertain... Trying to form countries off of the lines drawn by Europe does not make for tribes and peoples that get along (ie the Sudan, Iraq .......)

mmmm Big Fish

Big Fish is very burtonesque ... if you like Edward Scissorhands and nightmare before christmas you liek it .. it definitely captures the spirit of southern tall tales and is beautiful to look at and very well acted including the small parts..... I saw it early with my girlfriend because I live on the crazy isle of Manhattan and it was released in mid-December here ... Its now having more of a nationwide release so definitely see it ... I had the luck of seeing Big Fish and LOTR in the same week ... and although I would give Big Fish ****1/2 LOTR was one of my very rare ***** movies ... only joining American Splendor this year which is utterly brillant uses of real people and fictional characters and animation ... catch it on DVD, its one of the most unique and fun movies you may ever see .... Although it does not have anywhere near the battle scenes of LOTR.

Right now it is probably my number 3 favorite movie of the year after American Splendor and LOTR 3 .... I am still interested in seeing Master and Commander and the Triplets of Belleville which may make my list ...

I actually feel obligated to see Cold Mountain because it is likely to be competition for LOTR (who I would love to see win Best Picture for one of the greatest epics ever captured on the big screen) ...

My pick for most overrated movie is the incredibly slow "Lost in Translation" ... Bill Murray is very good as the American actor insomniac pitching Whisky and Tokyo looks lovely but I must have checked my watch 15 times wondering when the movie might end .... So it goes....

Big Fish

My number 3 favorite movie of the year is Big Fish dir. by Tim Burton ... It is just starting to have a nationwide release and is very good ... I gave it a short capsule review in my last blog ... I was lucky enough to see it before Christmas because I live in the crazy isle of Manhattan and it got a early release there ... great small parts in the movie too .. and of course the tall tales are wonderful ... my gf who usually like the books much better and insists on usually reading them first actually liked the movie better ... the circus for instance is added in the film and not in the book at all.

Rutgers played very close

It was a big treat to go to the Rutgers Athletic Centre and see RU vs. #1 UCONN ... although the scarlet knights lost 75-74 to be in a packed house with 8,044 fans was wicked fun. I need to see more games ....

I would also love to Rutgers play as well on the road .. on a neutral site Conn wins by 10-15 at Gampel prob. by 20+ ...
If Rutgers can play this well on the road they are a borderline NCAA team... More then likely though this Scarlet Knights Squad is NIT bound.

RU does have a huge matchup versus Providence (#25) this weekend ... It might be even tougher then UCONN following Providence's last second loss to Texas ... If Rutgers can win though they would be 1-2 in conference with a relatively easy game vs. Monmouth coming up.

I hope everyone is enjoying their year so far. I did see "In America" on Tuesday and its quite good ***1/2 ... The acting was terrific especially from the kids and its a very nice tearjerker kind of film .... I actually liked "The Last Samurai" and "Big Fish" much better. This despite Samurai's very middling reviews ... I found it a fun Samurai epic actually far better then "Dances With Wolves" ... I would give Samurai ****

"Big Fish" is simply marvelous... It is a story of "Fish tales", Tall tales by a larger then life southern story teller and his on not knowing the truth but hearing only the stories .. A brillant picture incredibly well acted by Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, etc.... I recommend it very highly ****1/2 ... the only movies I have liked better this year (2003 releases) are American Splendor and Lord of the Rings which are both ***** movies in my mind.

Welcome to the new year.

Decent weekend for Rutgers B'ball ..men played tough after first 10 minutes but lost at Georgetown... women had a great win on ESPN2 with #17 ranked Ohio State.

I have enjoyed our early Spring blast in NYC land but apparently it is dissapearing wicked quick.

One of Ed's favorite things is beer though ... I like many different types and am a pseudo - "Beer Snob" ... I say pseudo because I will still drink Bud?Rolling Rock/Rheingold etc if its $5 a pitcher and Guinness is $5 a pint ...

Who am I kidding .. beer is NOT $5 a pitcher in NYC ... you feel lucky if its $10/pitcher for Rheingold ( a regional lager) ... some places around here will charge you $17/pitcher or more for simply Yuengling ... I have a problem paying that much for a mass consumable.....

Lots of sports this weekend... I must say with Bowl Week and all ... I basically have no football watching left in me this weekend... Congratulations on the National Title -- USC!!!! ....

I will however watch the Eagles dominate next weekend as I am a Philly sports fan still.

Just got back from Maine today ...

I was really worried at about 4:00 pm today when I was still in S. Me but I got to NYC at around 10:30 nonetheless.

Of course when I was parking the car later a little worried when had a almost 2 car size parking space ... For you non new yorkers ... the parking police here are insane and if something looks to good to be true you are almost always worried that it is.

If you all are curious here is some Holiday Haul..... Family Guy Season 3(need seasons 1 and 2), Taxi Driver, a book on the where the Beats hung out in NYC, my gf got me Simpsons Season 3, and Futurama Season2 (gf brother got me $50 gc at Best Buy .. would have bought stuff on Friday but line was insanely long (about 35 mins) ...

Had a good day today ... was actually not tired on the Merritt Parkway which was bonus ... Also stopped by NH Liquor Store(low low state taxes make money by sales of potables not Taxes) got some good harsh Aalborg Akvavit, Myers Rum, Brandy, Port, some wine and such ...

Hello everyone.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Its me reporting from Westbrook, Maine home of my girlfriend's family.

Hunter has done well since his neteuring but trusts me just that little bit less.

Lord of The Rings is wicked awesome but I hesistate to see to much so as not to spoil the appetite of late arrivals to the movie ... So I will just say ***** SEE IT!!! ... although I would say the last half-hour epilogue ran very long and prob. could have waited until the extended edition.

I also saw Big Fish and that was very good ... **** ... Albert Finney and Ewan McGregor are both absolutely excellent in one of Burton's best films in quite some time.

As far as other films with critical Buzz .. I have not seen Mystic River or Cold Mountain, but I am sure I will still prefer the Lord of the Rings 3 come Oscar season.

I have seen "Lost in Translation" and although many critics love it and it is a beautiful, haunting view of Tokyo at night and sleeplessness, I must say the movie is SSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW ... one of the slowest I have seen in a while ... considering it was a 20 watch time looking at film I would have to give it only **1/2 stars.

My kitty had to go and get neutered/spayed today ... he is at the Vet as I speak ... I must say it was definitely hard to not feed or give him water for 12 hours before....

He was so sweet on the bus going uptown and so calm at the vet. ... I am proud of my little kitty hunter "socks" thompson ... He is currently away from the computer but should update his website soon of http:\\huntersocksthompson.com ....

I am seeing Lord of the Rings: Return of the King in less then 4 hours and should give an update soon .... I have heard only great things so far ....

Anyone who really believes that we stop terrorism by attacking a country is insane. Obviously its a lot easier to hit a target 3 miles away then 6,000 .... But what will you do in Ashcroft's America...

I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving and a sane pre-Christmas.

I had my performance for my level 1 shows for the Upright Citizens Brigade improv class .... It went well but was a very quick 45 minutes that went by.

Although I was very pumped for the performance, the suggestion was toothpaste and since I saw no one going up for the monologue I went up myself ... I started with an inane it sucks to not have toothpaste when you travel and then I mentioned Colgate's wonderful I-AA football performance of something like 15 wins in a row...

I also had an awkward 3 person scene where I was not sure where I would go .... Then I was the gamemaster in a Parker Brothers Skit .....

But improv is definitely a good way to think on your feet.

So have a great holiday and keep in touch....

I am watching Smoke Signals.

Its is an excellent movie .... believe in "frybread power" and if you ever get the chance to eat good Indian frybread take it immediately.

Saw 3 Harold shows today at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre they were all pretty solid.

More interesting my girlfriend is having her level 2 show there this Sunday at 4 pm.

Nice warm day in NYC today ... I recommend seeing "Elf" and think Matrix Revolutions is terrible ... saw it in IMAX and it didn't help one bit.
